Your Initial Session

Pocket Watches pic
After we have spoken on the phone regarding the issue(s) that you wish to address in general terms, and how I can be of service to you in resolving these area(s) of concern, we will schedule your initial session, as follows:

Hypnotherapy

Please set aside an hour to one and a half hours for this appointment. We will begin by briefly reviewing and discussing my Disclosure Statement. I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have at this time.

We will also discuss the short Personal History Questionnaire that you will have filled out, either prior to our first session or when you arrive. Receiving pertinent information in your own words regarding the issue(s) we will be working on enables me to better understand your area(s) of concern and to plan for any future sessions.

Next comes one or two “suggestibility tests,” followed by a visualization and relaxation technique. These exercises are fun and enjoyable and allow me to get to know you better and to address any feelings, fears, or anxieties you may have regarding the hypnotherapy session to follow. Doing these exercises may also elicit questions that you were not aware of previously, which we can discuss.

Once you feel comfortable with the knowledge that you will remain awake and aware during the entire session, as well as completely in control at all times, you will be ready to experience hypnotherapy. Please rest assured that your area of personal interest will be addressed from the outset, and that positive suggestions will be given to move you closer to a state of well-being and toward your goals.

Phone and Skype sessions are also available.

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Please set aside an hour to one and a half hours for this appointment. We will begin by briefly reviewing and discussing my Disclosure Statement. I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have at this time.

We will also discuss the short Personal History Questionnaire that you will have filled out, either prior to our first session or when you arrive. Receiving pertinent information in your own words regarding the issue(s) we will be working on enables me to better understand your area(s) of concern and to plan for any future sessions.

We will explore the best “bilateral stimulation” method to use during your session, from a number of options. We might use eye movements, tapping or tactile vibrations using a Tac-Scan device, auditory tones, or a combination of methods.

EMDR therapy is an 8-phase process; don’t let that intimidate you, however, as we will move seamlessly and effectively through these phases during each session(s). The phases are: (1) discussion of the treatment plan  and the target for EMDR; (2) identification by the client of a “safe place” image or memory; (3) identification of a “snapshot” image representing the trauma, an associated negative statement, and a more preferable positive self-statement; (4) focusing simultaneously on the image, the negative statement, and the disturbing emotion/body sensation in conjunction with bilateral stimulation (“desensitization”); (5) focus on the positive self-statement in conjunction with bilateral stimulation (“installation”); (6) a mental body scan; (7) debriefing and support; and (8) reevaluation.

EMDR is a focused system, and you will become aware of a shift in your thoughts and feelings regarding your incident/issue by the end of the first session. If time restraints, or the severity of the traumatic memories, do not allow us to finish processing the targeted trauma, we will end the session with relaxation exercises to bring you back to a peaceful state. (These will also be helpful for you to use between sessions.)

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)

Please set aside an hour to one and a half hours for this appointment. We will begin by briefly reviewing and discussing my Disclosure Statement. I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have at this time.

We will also discuss the short Personal History Questionnaire that you will have filled out, either prior to our first session or when you arrive. Receiving pertinent information in your own words regarding the issue(s) we will be working on enables me to better understand your area(s) of concern and to plan for future sessions, if necessary.

Although the sequence of tapping the appropriate points &/or the selection of effective tapping phrases may seem complex in the beginning, many clients master the EFT technique during our first session, take a handout to refresh their memory at home, and leave with a very versatile self-healing tool!

Life Coaching

Life coaching sessions can either take place in person or by phone. If, after the initial consultation, we decide that we are a good fit to work together, then I will mail or FAX to you my Client Policies and Procedures, Client Information Form, and Life Coaching Agreement. I might also send along other exercise(s) if we’ve agreed upon these during our conversation. Receiving pertinent information in your own words regarding the goal(s) we will be working on enables me to better understand you and to plan for future sessions.

I request that all forms be returned to me at least 3-5 days prior to our first life coaching session. Whether we meet in person or by phone, please set aside an hour to an hour and a half to give adequate time to discuss these forms, in addition to our initial coaching. Of course, questions or concerns can be discussed at any time.

Phone, Skype, or in-person sessions are available.
